You gotta wonder if D. Williams already has a short list and was waiting to see if he felt like he could land a big fish before meeting with Caldwell. AOG is reporting that the Trustees already wanted Caldwell out earlier this week and that they are willing to go after Gus Malzahn. Interested to hear everyone else's thoughts moving forward on who we should be taking a look at.
Well, I was 1 of 5 people who wanted to give Robbie one more year but I guess we will see what happens. I was really hoping hed be given one more year to put Herb Hand as OC which makes me think they will try to use that to get Gus. If we got Gus I wouldnt hate it, but no to Mike Leach. Hes to much trouble. He filed a lawsuit against ESPN this week. Do we really want that at Vandy?
Anyway, Robbie and the staff did alot of good when they were at Vandy and that shouldnt be overlooked. This staff beat Georgia, TN, a Spurrier coached team, got a bowl win... they did alot in their time here. Whoever we get, I hope they are as loyal to the program as this staff was.
By the way, I think they will probably all head back to SC and coach at Furman. They will get that job and I wish them luck with it. Go Dores.
Greg- I made that same point Re: Leach in a comment to a post below. DW also serves as general counsel and so will be especially wary of someone with a litigious reputation.
God bless Coach Caldwell, et al. They have shown the best side of sportsmanship and have, by all accounts, been wonderful with the young men in the program. Thanks to all of them for their service and for continuing to represent the school in the most honorable way.
I also want to thank Caldwell for his years of hard work at Vandy. I had hoped he could stay as head of recruiting and retire out of Vandy, but I wish him the best. He was a really good man.
Best to Coach Caldwell and thanks for all his hard work. He was dealt a bad hand and while I do think it's the right move to search for a new coach, he did some admirable things. That press conference was awkward - Caldwell was visibly upset. I feel bad for the guy.
That being said, excited to see who's next. Malzhan would be great...I'm curious what the thoughts are on Herb Hand staying on staff? Obviously all the other coaches are gone (well, most likely)...but would Hand stay, and if so, would we want a more defensive-minded HC than Malzhan, so as to let the experienced Herb Hand control the offense, and have the HC focus on our usually very good defense?
