It's unfortunate that Vanderbilt is dialing up good plans and can't convert.
It is truly amazing that no one wants to state the obvious: Georgia's 50+ yard run was the set up by A.J. Green's blatant block in the back. Granted, once you get a guy hemed in like that, you've got to bring him down, but still, let's call a spade a spade.
Why is Vanderbilt so shook? They can play with Georgia. They are dropping balls (Barden and Johnson), snapping the ball all over the place (Bailey), and looking like they're scared.
May makes a great play on special teams. That's what we need.

Guys, great work on the site. Would love to hear your reaction to this: Given Mississippi State's sudden success under Mullen, doesn't it prove that Vandy can be much better with a different coaching staff?

At some point we need to stop blaming the players and bring in a completely different coachiing staff who can instill a winning attititude.......this is embarrassing.
Our coaching staff has sucked for a long time. Just like american idol. Maybe worse.
no...actually american idol is worse - but is being given a run for it's suck money.

I'll chip in a few extra bucks to get Gruden. Can't you see the recruits begging to come to Vandy?We would win the SEC in two years! We MUST get a big name, we can't wait for an unknown to try to build something. Go Dores!
Gents- your assignment is to find a defensive/ offensive coordinator at either a good academic school in a BCS conference (Standford/ Northwestern/ Cal/ etc.) or an FBS school that does not have an automatic BCS bid (Utah/ TCU/ BSU) who has roots in the south, has been at his job 5+ years and wants/ is ready for a head coaching job. I don't think that current NFL coaches need apply.
Second, what former NFL players from the Commodores would love to come back to school as LB/ DB coach - Corey Chavous - I'm thinking of you.
We need to keep our current players and bring in a solid recruiting class this year. They are the foundation of the next 3 to 4 years.
Any other thoughts as to how we can get this started? I am a die hard fan and like Caldwell, but Saturday's game pushed me over the limit.
We aren’t screwed yet. The loss to Georgia was a BAD loss and I don’t disagree we shouldn’t clean house if things don’t get better. Georgia has a lot more talent than we do, it just took a while for it all to click. Plus a lot was riding on Mark Richt’s job security for that game. He had to coach a blow out. If Georgia and South Carolina played again today, we’d be talking about Georgia going to Atlanta. Having said that, the EAST is really bad this year so let’s just wait and see how this plays out. South Carolina is the best of the bunch and spots 2 – 6 are up for grabs. We have SC on Saturday and Vandy’s played them well the past few years. Don’t be shocked if the Gamecocks fall again in Nashville.

The first thing that needs to change is the attitude of the folks who run the school and the athletic department. They must realize that our position in the SEC means that we can consistently attract world-class coaches and we should never settle for anything less.
I'm not suggesting that Vandy is any coach's dream job, but it is one step from a dream job. It is a place where a hotshot young coach can come and prove that he's ready for one of the top ten coaching jobs in the country. And the school needs to use that to hire possible genius coaches who have a legit shot with the big boys. (This strategy also means they have to be willing to fire coaches who don't pan out pretty fast -- two or three years -- and accept that the best coaches will move on.)
The people who run the school also need to realize how much a good football program would help increase applications to the school, boost it in national rankings, etc. Then maybe they'd care enough to get their act together.
Vandy could easily win six or seven games every single year and, every decade or so, have one of those teams that just clicks and wins nine.
But we're not going to get a coaching staff that can do that if the folks who run the show are content to settle for another batch of folks who have turned in nothing but mediocre performance elsewhere.
