VSL Decade in Review: Most Disappointing Moment of the Decade

Unfortunately, there are a lot of moments to choose from:

wow... we've had a lot of disappointing moments this decade... i can recall them all and the one that provoked the most emotion is the one i went with. the loss against georgetown. that would've put us in the elite 8 for the first time ever right? if not ever it had been a long time. we would've played unc and not that we would've won but that would've been massive for the program.

i remember walking out of the bar immediately when the game was over. my friend had to pay my tab and i had to recoup him. i just walked straight out. people were patting me on the back like, ouch, sorry man.

the mtsu field goal however was also pretty troublesome. i still have some mtsu friends who give me all sorts of hell. that wasn't the only mtsu loss we had. we won't even play 'em now it seems. but that georgetown loss is the one for me. hurt bad.

I went with the loss against Sienna. My top 3 would be MTSU, Siena and Georgetown. I was tempted to put hte g-town game (I vividly remember sitting at the game with Seamus and O'Shea in utter shock how it ended). But I also remember what a magical season it was. The Siena loss, well we wee just never in the game and it was just so dissapointing. Seems like the program has still not recovered from that loss in some ways. Honarable mention to the Earl Bennett game. Excessive celebration? Really? SEC where was our apology for that bad call?

While all these moments were incredibly disappointing (I still get angry when discussing the travel), I voted for the baseball loss. Here's why: that was Vanderbilt's best team in any sport, ever. They were the #1 overall team in America, had 2 great pitchers, a killer line-up, and had been the #1 team throughout the year. While baseball isn't nearly as sexy as football or basketball, I really think it would have meant a lot to the school had we won a national championship in a sport other than bowling (no offense, ladies).

The Georgetown loss was less "self-inflicted" than the others (except for the His Name Is excessive celebration), and that's why I voted for baseball.

With that said, as I compiled the options, I got depressed all over again.

Great poll, terrible memories

Went with the baseball loss b/c that team had real aspirations of a national championship. There was real belief, especially after winning the SEC tourney. They all hurt terribly. I was at the game we blew at Neyland and had to catch a flight and missed the fourth quarter. As my UT friend drove me to the airport, I heard the disaster unfold and died in my chair. The Gtown loss and the Florida loss aren't really disappointments b/c I just feel robbed of something we actually earned. Those were more crimes against mankind... but our teams were not the source of anything but pride in those efforts.

I voted for a write-in candidate (2007: Vanderbilt's loss to Arkansas in the 1st Round of the SEC Tournament). Disappointing because I believe Vandy had a bye and lost to Arkansas at the end of the regular season. Then loses by 1 to Arkansas again. Emblematic of Vandy's SEC Tournament futility.
