A solid road win. 3-0 in conf. Possibly climbing back into the Top 25 come Mon. Vandy still needs to work on reducing turnovers and overall ball handling, however, I think some of that is due to relaxed play given the opponent. I don't think you'd see it if the opponent was TN or KY. Vandy did a great job of blunting USC runs. There was never a long drought.
A. This is the first Vandy team in a long time that can play badly and still beat quality opponents on the road. (I think they played badly at Alabama, not USC, though I think the could have played much better there.)
B. This team is already one of the top 20 in the country and it has a lot of room for improvement. Taylor is slowly developing his jump shot, which will make him an absolute beast, while Festus and the man who should change his name to Chain Gang are making real strides. And Jenkins will be a very different player at the end of the SEC season.
C. I don't really know how teams at the low end of the top 25 fared this week, but I'd be shocked if Vandy doesn't make the list, given that it has been on the list twice before and has run off so many wins in a row, including two quality victories on the road in the SEC.
Tough to leap frog 10 teams to make the Top 25, although I think we are a top 20 team today, and our record and victories support that. Feel like we were unfairly penalized for the W Ky game, but what matters is the next month and hopefully we keep winning the games we can win (btw, both games this week were essentially pick 'em spreads)
At least we will jump UNC. They dont make the tourney if the season ended today.
Glad to have a week off to prepare for Auburn and the week from hell.
It will be a near crime, but I don't think Vandy will be ranked in the Top 25 come Mon. It's also possible that a win over Auburn won't do it.
I guess the expectation is that the team will beat Auburn and lose to TN and KY. If, however, Vandy somehow manages to win in Knoxville, CKS and company will be loaded for bear going into Rupp.
The biggest stat of the game was 30-7. That's the bench points for both VU and USC. Having Jenkins come in with the backups and keeping the scoring going is a big difference from years past. Remember when our second unit had Metcalfe and Drake leading the show?

Offensively that was the best we looked all year. I know he had a turnover one time but Steve-T looked real good bringing the ball up. I think its a real advantage that our bigs can dripple as well as they do.

i highly doubt we enter the top 25 this week. though we should be in the 27-30 range. if we beat auburn, i imagine we will get in to the top 25 as NCAA & media will enjoy two top 25 match ups between UT-Vandy and UK-Vandy. corrupt but probably how it will work out whether we really deserve it or not. though i think we do.
sagarin has VU # 19 and Pomeroy has us # 21
I dont see us being ranked this week, and I dont see us being ranked after we beat Auburn. I'm afraid AP pollers aren't as interested in creating top 25 match-ups as our consipiracy theorists would like to believe. Bottom line, our best win is against St. Mary's. Say what you will about Western Kentucky (they are a "tournament team", etc, etc), they also lost to a weak South Carolina team by 20. So, I think we should look at this as a testament to how much we have improved as a team. We aren't deserving of a Top 25 ranking right now, but we'll get there. We will likely need to beat Kentucky or Tennessee to get there within the next month (don't see any other way we get ranked). That being said, I would feel more comfortable with these guys come tournament time than our 2006-07 team (Elite Eight).
