All I Can Say Is WOW!!!!!

According to reports on ESPN.com USC is ready to name Lane Kiffen their head coach. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4820737

This can only be a good thing for Vandy in my opinion. Continued instability at UT will hopefully drive more fans and more in-state talent to Vandy. Now in order for this to happen we clearly can not go 2-10.

Any thoughts about the hire? First thought was they are crazy but then again I don't think USC cares what they do as long as they win so going after Kiffen (who I'm sure got a big push from Carroll) maybe makes sense.

Tennessee has to be absolutely crushed. Looks like the USC job has lost a little luster if the best they can do is a coach with 1 year of college coaching experience and a 7-6 record.

No one wants this job because the NCAA calvary is marching on Troy

I predict the next coach at UT will be...Mike Leach

It would be real interesting to see his offense in the SEC where teams actually play defense.

I don't think it's a matter of no one wanting the job, otherwise they wouldn't have moved so fast. USC is still one of the best coaching jobs in the country, investigation or not. Plus I just have a feeling they will emerge from the NCAA probe relatively unscathed. Don't you think?

I LOVE the Mike Leach call. Wouldn't it be funny if they picked up Sarkisian? I could also see Harbaugh potentially.

When you lie down with dogs, you're gonna get fleas. Couldn't happen to a more deserving program.

I guess we can feel a bit better about the Nash Nance commitment.

Leach in the SEC would be interesting, but curious if they can afford to hire someone who has issues given the state of the program. Also, UT likes to run a pro style offense, which would obviously be a big change with Leach.

I hear Fullmer is still available. What about Skip at ECU?

Funny, The Raiders said that UT would regret the day they hired Kiffin.

Leach is a good call, and he should scare Vandy fans. He has demonstrated the ability to make a consistant big winner out of a program with no history, no fan base, no money and no recruiting cache -- located in one of the earth's dumpier towns.

Maybe he doesn't have the what it takes to coach in the SEC, but I'd say he's earned the benefit of the doubt. He's smart enough to modify that offense if he plays in a league with fast defenses. I suspect he plays it because of the talent (or lack thereof) that he's been able to recruit.

As for Kiffen, I'm somewhat surprised he'd want to go to USC. The weather is nicer in LA -- and it's easier to recruit talent when the nearest big football school is 1,200 miles away in Austin -- but the coach of USC is a nobody in LA, whereas the Vols coach is a God in Tennessee, so long as he can put together a winning program. Add in the NCAA investigation and it looks like an odd decision to me.

From a UT friend of mine: "I'd call [Kiffin] Judas, but he's worse. At least Judas got a job without his Dad being part of the deal."

Did Nash Nance actually sign with UT?
