Rod Odom Decommits from Arizona and Commits to Vanderbilt

This is why a recruiting battle is never over until the commitment form is signed.

Apparently the decision was academic related and a matter of distance from his home in New York. This is excellent news for the Commodores, who add another piece to what is shaping out to be a solid recruiting class.

Odom is ranked #77 on the ESPNU 100 listing with a rating of 93. He is a Rivals 4-star and a Scout 3-star.

With Fuller, Henderson, and Odom in the mix, Stallings has things working real well on the recruiting end. If we make it happen on the performance end this year, you can expect Vanderbilt basketball to reach new heights.

That is some dam good news. Kinda out of left field too, makes it extra good.

Trying not to jump the gun, but there's several fairly well respected outlets who are reporting that he has committed to Vandy, including Jeff Goodman of FoxSports. VandyMania has an article up now discussing it.

After missing out on Prather, landing Odom could be huge for Kevin Stallings and this program. We now have three solid commitments before the early signing period. That's some pretty good work by Stallings and his staff, who continue to impress with their sudden ability to steal talent from some of the bigger name programs.

I agree that this commitment would be huge for Vanderbilt, however if this kid already committed and de-committed once, who's to say he won't do it again?

That's a fair point. Who knows what's going through the guy's mind. But with the Early Signing Period just 3 weeks away, and the fact that he's obviously thought a lot about this decision, I think he's very comfortable going to Vanderbilt. It says a lot that his decision was academically driven.

We'll see how everything plays out, but right now, things are promising.
