Back from Connecticut and an awesome wedding celebration, the VSL brain-trust had a chance to talk Commodore football face-to-face. We are in agreement that no one has any idea how the SEC East will shake-out after Florida and Georgia. The big question for Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt is on the offensive end. With that said, we all think it is just as likely that any one of those teams will finish 3rd in the East as they will 6th.

Getting to today's news, there is a great human-interest piece in today's Tennessean on linebacker John Stokes. Stokes was recently accepted to Vanderbilt Medical School, one of only 8 undergraduates out of the 100 who applied, before their junior years. First off, congratulations, John. Second, stories like this are tremendous for recruiting. This is a story the coaches can (and should) hand to every parent they meet on a recruiting trip.

Moving away from the feel-good, DE Steven Stone will be out 6 weeks after sustaining a broken foot in Monday's practice according to Jeff Lockridge's Tennessean piece. Stone's injury will give Tim Fugger, Theron Kadri, Teriall Brandon, and Johnell Thomas with a chance to step-up. Stone is excepted to return against Ole Miss on October 3rd.

David Boclair, in today's Nashville City Paper, highlights the conditioning of the offensive line, who have "never been in better shape." Given Vanderbilt's implementation of a no-huddle offense, the importance of the Commodores' legs, especially upfront, can't be stressed enough. Boclair (as well as Lockridge) also point out that WR John Cole is still in a boot with a sprained ankle.

I know its football season, but ESPN announced their SEC Super Tuesday Basketball Schedule yesterday. Vanderbilt will appear twice, facing Tennessee at Memorial February 9th, and at Florida March 2nd. For the complete schedule, click here.

Finally, Caleb Cotham beat the Monday deadline to sign with the team that drafted them. Caleb joins my beloved Yankees, although I think it's unlikely we'll see him in the show this season. Jeff Lockridge had the story in yesterday's Tennessean.
