Hoover is Beautiful this time of Year

Mike Minor pitched a complete game, 1 run gem in Hoover to lift the Commodores 4-1 over the #1 seeded (and national #2) LSU Tigers. Vanderbilt will play the winner of South Carolina/Alabama in the NEXT game of the SEC Tournament tomorrow. UPDATE: Here's the AP's article on Vanderbilt's win, and the recently posted Box Score.

Vanderbilt did not fair well against either the Gamecocks or the Tide, losing all 6 games against these teams, dropping 3 in Columbia and then getting swept by Bama in Hawkins Field.

Flipping back and forth between Idol (I promise I won't discuss it I've learned my lesson), Vanderbilt did something tonight they were unable to do this past weekend against the Volunteers: capitalize on opportunities. The key in the game though was the 3 double plays the Commodore defense was able to turn to keep their ace out of trouble.

Minor's performance was brilliant, scattering 6 hits through 9 complete innings, and walking just 3 while striking out 5 on 128 pitches.. Despite winning 4-1, Vanderbilt stranded 11 runners as compared to just 6 for the Tigers, which goes to show just how dominating Minor was.

Catcher Andrew Giobbi led the way for Vanderbilt, starting the scoring with a solo blast in the 4th, and adding 2 singles and a walk to cap off a 3 for 4 night. Clean-up hitter Curt Casali drove in 2 with a base-knock and a sac fly in the 7th.

With tonight's win, Vanderbilt probably played their way into the NCAA Tournament, but a win tomorrow would not only guarantee the Commodores a spot in the field of 64, but also give Tim Corbin's team a chance to win their second SEC Tournament title in 3 years.

Who watched? What did you see? You can follow the team on Twitter.

Do you honestly believe tomorrow is "the final game of the SEC Tournament?" Tomorrow is Game 2 for the Dores. Today was Game 1. It's a double elimination tournament. Your math, statistics, and logic credits have been purged from the system, and your degree has been redacted.

And yes, double posting on this removes some credibility, but in my defense, my computer was oddly slow. Regardless, our pitching seems set up for the tourney. Will Sonny Gray start tomorrow?

Anonymous double post, thanks for the call out. Since we obviously don't know much about sports here (Vanderbilt or otherwise), I can see how you'd think I thought that the tournament was a 2 game affair as opposed to just making an error in an attempt to get a post up as quickly as possible.

In fairness, I was told there would be no math.

Sonny Gray will almost certainly start tomorrow, but the fact we didn't have to expend any arms from the bullpen, does put the Commodores and Corbin in a good position going forward.
