Don't Panic...

While today's loss was certainly disappointing, there's no reason to panic. Vanderbilt's won some games this year that they probably shouldn't, and that streak isn't going to last forever. We're still 5-1 and tied for first in the SEC East. I thought the coaches made a mistake by sticking with Nickson as long as they did and calling a particularly uninspired game (even for Ted Cain). Beyond that, Mississippi State is a better team than many thought. There is certainly a lot to work on this week and a lot to vent about, but anyone who writes "Same old Vandy" anywhere on this blog is officially excommunicated from VSL Nation.

More tomorrow...I'm OUT

MSTU lost to Auburn by one point. The Commies beat Auburn by one. A 3-point loss to the Bullies -- on the road -- was certainly "within the margin of error," as the political pollsters would put it. So this was the minor-est of minor upsets, IMHO. Not to mention one hell of an SEC football game.

Now to take our best shot at Georgia, and then come home for 3 of the last 5 games.

auburn got beat by arkansas? wow. makes that look less impressive and makes me wonder how good we really are. south carolina beat kentucky at kentucky which is promising. maybe we can take one from the cats.

either way, it's one game at a time. we got owned by mississippi state. they're offense has not been that productive all year long and dixon dominated us. as soon as adams threw one pass he had better stats than nickson. adams had no time to manage the game and had to play catch up and the interception in late game time is understandable. put him in near the beginning so that won't happen. he is a riskier passer, but it pays off more. start adams. even better, start smith. isn't that kid supposed to be amazing? this isn't the same old vandy and it's time to show it by going to athens and taking one from the dogs to maintain our sec east lead.

I think that's the topic that every Vanderbilt fan has to ponder going into this game. Should we start Adams or Nickson?

As long as Nickson's got a bum shoulder, in my opinion we have to go with Adams. It would be great if Nickson were healthy but playing hurt Adams gives us the best chance to win. I really think we have to give Adams the ball against Georgia next week and let Chris rest his shoulder.

That game was Same Old Vandy and you know it. How many QB draws can you run? If the QB is unable to pass effectively, then put in someone who can. This is so patently obvious that one has to think the lable "Same Old Vandy" appropriate.

Leaving in a QB who cannot pass and the other teams' defense knows it = SOV.

I have faith your team will bounce back quickly. But if they lose next week, their stock will drop faster than Sarah Palin's after an interview with the grand inquisitor Katie Couric.

DR. MZ

P.S. My Tar Heels are fast on their glorious march to conquer the completely mediocre ACC. Get on the bandwagon.

What the hell was Bobby Johnson waiting for? Was it unclear to anyone that Nickson was struggling? I understand wanting to pick a guy and sticking with him but I think we're past that point in the season. We can't keep trying to build up Nickson's confidence by leaving him in games. He's a big boy, he'll understand. I say bench him, and not just till his shoulder is better. Adams has been playing well and he deserves to be rewarded with the starting job.

Arkansas did beat Auburn...pulling the hogs back to .500. The three losses? #1 Texas, #2 Alabama, and #5 Florida.

How about not putting us at the very bottom of the power poll this week?

How about not getting blown out by a million in your losses?
