VSL Hotline: Spring Break Edition, Volume 1

Being on Spring Break, I really have no excuse not to post. I, unlike most of the VSL Nation, am not freaking out over Vanderbilt's loss at Alabama on Saturday. Vanderbilt didn't play well and hasn't won their last game of the season for the last nine seasons (Thanks Brett's blog post). Vanderbilt limped into the post-season last year (losing 2 straight to Arkansas) and was a non-travel call from making it to the Elite 8. So, a modest amount of perspective is in order.

I'll be the first to admit that this team has come serious issues heading into post-season play. On Joe Fisher's morning call-in on 104.5 in Nashville Monday, Joe and the gang did a pretty good job highlighting Vanderbilt's problems: Lack of production out of the backcourt, AJ's inability to stay out of foul trouble, and Vanderbilt's inability to put teams away when they've got the chance is troubling.

The Man We Love to Hait's got an APB for Vanderbilt's "Missing Backcourt" in today's Nashville City Paper. Mo Patton writes in today's Tennessean that Shan Foster won his 4th SEC Player of the Week award of the season.

Vanderbilt is the second game of the day in the SEC Tournament on Thursday where they will face-off against the six-seeded Auburn Tigers. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 3:15 Eastern (2:15 in the heartland). The winner will take on Arkansas on Friday.

Vanderbilt is currently ranked #17 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, and #18 in the AP. Joe Lunardi's anti-Vanderbilt bias continues to pervade his Bracketology with the Commodores currently a #6 Seed headed to Tampa.

Despite the Madness of March, Spring practice gets underway today. Brett Hait's got a piece on the "QB Logjam" in today's Nashville City Paper. Mo Patton looks at Vanderbilt's focus on the Offensive Line, a unit descimated by graduation in today's Tennessean. Steve Mengargee of Rivals.com has a piece on Yahoo Sports talking about the Commodores that is also worth a read.

Bobby Johnson promoted 2 assistants according to VUCommodores.com. Jamie Bryant adds special teams coordinator responsibilities to his Secondary duties, with linebackers coach Warren Belin becoming the recruiting coordinator.

Vanderbilt baseball's got a 2-day series against Western Carolina before opening up SEC Play on Friday against South Carolina at Hawkins Field. The Western Carolina game starts after noon, 11 central. You can track the game on VUCommodores.com.

While he's now solidly in 3rd place, Shan is stuck at 8%. With this in mind,
Vote for Shan
...and contribute to the NCC.

Let's get the chatter going...

Bobby, OUT.

True story.

AJ named second-team all-conference and all-freshman team too.

Let's hope the AP doesn't botch it again this year. Surely not, right?
