VSL Hotline: Saturday Run Down

Big game for the VSL Nation today in Fayetteville. Finally, Boyer in the District and VSL Nation will be at laggerheads for today's 4pm tilt. The AP's got a piece that appears in today's Tennessean about the "desperate" Arkansas team Vanderbilt faces today. Vanderbilt doesn't have to win this game, but if they do, a top-10 appearance is not beyond the pale.

Mo Patton's got a piece in today's Tennessean about Jamie Graham, and the likelihood the football playing, "walk-on" could start to get more playing time down the stretch. As I wrote after the UT game, the idea of having a "shut down" defender coming off the bench is huge, especially given Vanderbilt's difficulty in stopping a penetrating guard. Wouldn't it be amazing if Vanderbilt's tournament hopes were pinned on a cornerback?

Vanderbilt's game next Saturday at Alabama will be televised on Raycom Sports at 2pm Eastern, 1pm in the heartland.

Vanderbilt baseball improved their record to 4-1 behind a 3-hitter thrown by sophomore hurler Mike Minor. The Commodores beat Kansas 7-1, and will face Iowa today at 5pm (4 central), in their second Music City Classic game.

Big game tonight. Let's keep the chatter going.

Wow, Neltner pulled a Chris Webber.

For you youngsters, that was the '93 national championship game, my sophomore year in the 'ville.

No worries, b/c it will help us in the rankings monday that we lost on a "mistake," as Joe Fisher said on ISP Vanderbilt Radio Network.

way to go dores. blow a chance to get the ONLY quality win on the road all year.

Jason you are wrong, it will not help us on monday that we lost on a mistake. A loss is a loss. This team looks dumb on the road, we are going to get bounced in the first round of the tourney to a more athletic team.

Ouch...that last comment might have been a bit overboard. We're 24-5 with losses at 5 very difficult and hostile environments. Environment at the Dance is high-pressure but not necessarily hostile. For what it's worth, we didn't look particularly good last year on the road and still went to the Sweet Sixteen...

I was as distraught as anyone after yesterday's game, but we have to be pleased with the way they fought back to give themselves a chance down the stretch. Arkansas played the best game they've played all year, and when a guy is feeling it like Patrick Beverly was, plus the entire team hitting their free throws when it counted, there ain't but so much you can do regardless of how good you are as a team.

Seamus...

The best game we played this year was when we beat the living piss out of Florida.

Jason...

I agree with anonymous on your/Joe Fisher's analysis that you'll get helped because you lost on a mistake.

Scoreboard.

Don't get bent out of shape folks. We never play well at Arkansas, we don't play great on the road, we just beat the #1 team in the country (for the next couple of hours), this is a classic hangover game in which we really didn't play that bad.

Boyer, don't get ahead of yourself.

Stan -

Did I look like I was getting ahead of myself? I thought my comment was extremely tame...that could've been much much MUCH worse, dont ya think?

Yup, just giving you a friendly reminder. Don't want your head getting to big and your blogging writing checks your ass can't cash.

The fact that we are ranked below Purdue in both polls (a team who lost AT HOME to a SOUTHERN CONFERENCE team that's not Davidson) is an utter disgrace. Losing to Wofford on the road would be bad enough.

Looks like the AP finally removed its head from its buttocks.

I'm surprised nobody has brought up Pedro's broken hand.
