so awesome. yes, so awesome. the crowd showed up tonight and did a great job of keeping the energy up. kentucky dancing? no way. and what's up w/ the florida fan on the board talking about blowing people out? they barely beat uk. and we get our chance to pay back our poor showing @ uf this saturday.
fabulous game - only comment is that when we beat UF on Saturday Sportscenter better make it about Vandy being good and not about FL playing bad ... that always steams me about our success.
I think a lot of our success against Kentuck came about because our increased intensity on defense, about damn time! Kentucky may not be the best team around but if you hold another team to more turnovers than points in a half your defense is doing something right. I love the intensity from Oglivy when he threw Stephenson to the ground like a little boy while up 38 pts. I would like to see that every game from the big.
I think what was so impressive was the fact that the tenacity we showed by getting up in Kentucky's jock straps was not just raw intensity -- it was poised and executed intensity. In other words, we were able to shut them down without getting into foul trouble and without the energy translating into over-eager mistakes on the offensive end. Offensively, we were incredibly patient and in my opinion did a textbook job of (1) finding the cutter when they overplayed and (2) going inside-out with Ogilvy when they played us straight-up.
Every news source I've checked has this as one of the top sports stories & the lead men's BB story today. Nice piece of recruiting material.
Also, Here was what Lunardi said about VU in his chat Monday on ESPN SportsNation:
Kevin (New York City, NY): Vanderbilt swept its road games this week yet dropped to a 10-seed. Why is Vanderbilt (20-4) and #11 in RPI seeded so low?
Joe Lunardi: Because RPI is only part of the story, Kevin. Vandy is a .500 team the last month and does not have a win over any team in the at-large field.
August, you can't win with the media "experts" and you shouldn't even try.
If VU beats FL and TN (knock wood) I predict Lunardi will downplay those victories as a product of the home advantage, benches under the baskets, etc.
The NCAA selection committee remembers the heat they took last year for seeding VU #5. They also remember that they were vindicated as the Comms. took out Wazzu and then were denied by a Tim Donaghy-esque NCAA referee.
It's hilarious to read the rampant excuses flowing like a river from Billy Donovan, FL fans and the FL beat writers from rags like the Gainesville Sun, et al.
Donovan: "Normally shooting those percentages would lead to a complete blowout."
And these same FL people say that Vanderbilt football fans make excuses and claim moral victories?
No matter: It's a W and another road loss avenged. Bring on GA.

Jamie Carroll's 3 at the end was an amazing "F you"
That was some serious payback.
44-11 at halftime has got to be the all-time Kentucky humiliation.
Kentucky's worst loss to an SEC foe EVER... now THAT'S some Memorial Magic!

but, not to dwell - amazing game all around.
Ogilvy throws Perry Stephenson to the court in a loose ball contest, then screams at him in a hostile fashion...all while Vandy was up 38 or so.
That attitude is very exciting at this time of year.

Now we just have to keep playing at this level, especially on the road. Great win.
That win was so sexy, I actually still have an erection from it...
Should I call my doctor?
Maybe after Valentine's Day.

Well Joe Lunardi can go wax his own kayak. Screw that guy.

Three thoughts on the Florida game:
1) Nick Calathes is the new Matt Walsh.
2) Noah is ugly.
3) Walsh, you suck!
That will be all.
