SEC Power Rankings: VSL's Vote

Sorry we've been a little quiet the past few days. With the bye week and my lack of Internet, it's been tough for me to do my part...anyway, here is how VSL voted in this week's SEC Power Rankings that were released this morning.

Seamus already told me he disagrees with my selections, I am hoping you all will do the same.

1. LSU
2. Florida
3. Alabama
4. South Carolina
5. Kentucky
6. Georgia (CORRECTION)
7. Arkansas
8. Tennessee
9. Vanderbilt
10. Miss. State
11. Auburn

I'm usually very negative when it come to vandy but shouldn't we be ahead of UT right now?

I might rank Auburn 12 and Ole Miss 11...only because Ole Miss has shown competitiveness while Auburn has completely shit the bed.

Also ranking Auburn below Ole Miss due to performance plotted against overall talent level/recruiting class rankings...

ESPN has started its draft coverage for 2008!!! Thank god I was starting to go through Draft withdrawal. Anyway for Mel Kiper Chris Williams s the 4th best Senior OT prospect and Goff is #2 for ILB. For juniors His name is is #3 WR and Langford is #4 safety. Also Williams is #22 overall on Kiper's big board....

This may seem a little strange to most of you. However, i dont think that Kentucky could beat Arkansas if they play, their defense is not strong enough and the combination of felix jones and DM would destroy them. I dont care if they beat Louisville, or if Woodson is great. I think by the end of the year UGA is going to be ahead of Kentucky.

I do not think USC is a 3, but i just dont know who else to put there right now.

As for Auburn, if Vanderbilt played Auburn right now i dont think they could win. Sure, we looked good against ole miss (the last ranked team) but we looked awful against Bama. I think we would have a good chance against them, but i just dont see us being able to beat them. Of course this question will be answered soon.

As far as UT goes, they play a tough schedule and have 2 loses because of it, but what if Vandy played the same schedule? We would have two losses as well. So it is hard to say if we are any better than them.

I know Mississippi State looked terrible against LSU. But they DID beat Auburn, and we haven't beaten anyone. But as a homer, I'm fine with where we are ranked.

UTK is a hard team to judge because all they've done is gotten shelled by really good teams and beaten a fairly decent CUSA team with a 2nd-half onslaught. Honestly, do you think VU comes within 14 of Cal or 39 of Florida if we caught those teams in the same form UTK caught them? I said honestly, now.

VU over Miss State is pretty much a blatant homer pick since a win at Auburn is much more significant than a win against Ole Miss. We might do better than 45-0 to LSU, but not by much. I guess the point of these polls is to induce homer picks so you may as well pick us too high to offset some Ole Miss joker who has them 8th or something.

Aaron - Kentucky travels to Arkansas this Saturday, so the questions will be answered then. I don't think Kentucky's defense can handle McFadden or Jones either, but I also thought we'd be able to handle Alabama. The thing is, i'm STILL not sold on Bama...any team with a mediocre secondary can beat them (which I'm ashamed to say, is Arkansas's biggest weakness).

I'm not sold on Alabama either. I don't think they can take their officials as a traveling roadshow to every SEC stadium, and I don't think it matters against LSU who'll pound them.

They really hit the jackpot on scheduling this year, with VU their rotating road game, and both Mississippis and Auburn as their other road games. Actually MSU-Bama in Starkville could be intriguing. Bama-UTK, otoh, maybe not so much if the Vols are really this bad. And by Iron Bowl week in Auburn the refs are going to be giving Auburn the Vanderbilt treatment, not to mention that Auburn really really sucks right now.

So yeah, they have a pretty easy road to 6-2 or 7-1 if they beat Georgia, but it's very hard to see them winning the West without upsetting LSU.

Ah well, nice to know that you can cheat like it's going out of style and only set your program back five years or so. I guess if we were smart and not so naive -- if I didn't have this quaint notion that losing with honor is better than winning like SEC programs do -- we'd learn from their example.

Philipvu94 -

I'm assuming you're highlighting the fact that Arkansas' punter was practically mowed down with a series of AK-47s after his punt that was returned to the Arkansas 3?

I was trying not to bitch...but since you (might have) brought it up...

boyer,

Wasn't referring to that specific play -- more to my ill-informed impression of the Arkansas game, combined with my better-informed impression of the Vanderbilt game. I realize the Nashville game was a nominal road game for Alabama, but for refereeing purposes apparently playing Vanderbilt automatically entitles a team to hometown calls.
