Vanderbilt Hotline: "Happy Birthday America, Love The Commies" Edition

As much as I love the day off, it's kind of a tease when a holiday like the 4th falls on a Wednesday. In fact, it seems to be to be the only possible day of the week where, if the holiday falls there, you only get one day off. I'll take the day, I'm just sayin...

As has become a common mantra here at VSL during these summer months, there isn't much to talk about so it will fall on you all to get the conversation going. The Vanderbilt women's basketball team got another committment from the Louisville area according to Mike Organ's story in today's Tennessean. Tia Gibbs, of Butler High School signed a letter of intent with Coach Melanie Balcomb during the November signing period. She will be a senior this year.

Vanderbilt is going on a marketing offensive this season in Football. This season, Vanderbilt officials will be renting out the tents that reside in each end zone to groups willing to pay 50 a head for an SEC match-up, and 35 a head for a non-conference game. If you people would starting buying something from our sponors, we might be able to have a fan appreciate day. While the ball is in your hands for the freebee, Bryan Mullen has the story in today's Tennessean.

Coach Tim Corbin got another committment yesterday as East Robertson "pit-cher" Will Cilnard announced he had committed to the Commmies to start playing in the fall of 2008. Cilnard joins his Brentwood travel team teammate Sonny Gray on Corbin's squad. Tom Kreager and Jeff Lockridge have the story in today's Tennessean.

Finally, Vanderbilt and Lipscomb will renew, what was, a cross-town rivalry this year according to Nate Rau in today's Nashville City Paper. This article can only be accessed by visiting the City Paper's website, clicking on "E-Paper" and virtually thumbing through the Sports section. Clearly, the City Paper's new website needs some work.

VSL will be taking off tomorrow to celbrate the 4th. The man formerly known as Mealmart will return, when and where remains to be seen. Stay tuned for information on the BFKAM (Blog formerly known as Mealmart) here at the Vanderbilt Sports Line.

Anybody have an opinion on Tank Johnson not being impaired while driving, yet being released by the Bears anyway?

Bears (over)reacted to Tank's latest run-in with the law. Given his history though, there was really no reason to suspect that he wasn't drunk when he was going 40 in a 25. In America, you are innocent until proven guilty; in today's NFL, you are not.

Only if you've got priors or multiple run-ins with the law.
