UK in-game Blogging...

Since it's snowing in the nation's capitol, Bobby's Betty is working, and I have nothing better to do, I will be blogging during the Vanderbilt/Kentucky. If you are at home by the TV, join in...if you are blacked out, follow the game on Live Stats.

Take 2 sips...they mentioned the lay out of the gym and the 3 point record...

7 turnovers in under 7 minutes leading to 7 points. You know where UK's 6 point lead is coming from.

Vanderbilt needs to get into an offense...surprisingly the LFS guys are on the money

You're right on about the offense Bobby. We're not moving the ball very well and we're not finding the open man, much like our play against Mississippi State, and nothing like our victory over Florida.

Plenty of time, we'll wake up, and we always go on a run in Memorial.

Something also to point out is that Shan Foster would benefit greatly if he wouldn't look for the tough 3 all the time. I think that the biggest flaw with his game is that he takes far too many bad shots. I trust him from behind the arc, but he certainly could improve on his shot selection and recognize the easier basket.

Cage has picked up 3 quick fouls...JeJuan and George need to give us some quality minutes in the last 7 minutes in the first.

Shamas points out that Vanderbilt will certainly live with UK settling for the long range shot...if Kentucky scores inside, we are in trouble.

Randolph Morris is playing terribly. As long as we continue to frustrate him we'll play well, assuming we can find an answer for Orbzut (sp?)

These refs are really not calling an even game. Vanderbilt has been whistled for a lot of contact and it seems as if UK is getting away with prison rules

Kentucky is killing us by penetrating and dishing to their posts for easy lay-ins. We've picked up our defensive pressure but we've gotta start recognizing and rotating on defense to stop that pass.

WHAT IS SHAN WATCHING? I hope Stallings sits him for lolly-gagging after the turnover...that did not have to be an uncontested dunk.

You won't hear me say this much, but that was a good time-out

35% from the field for the first half is just not going to cut it. We've got to find our touch.

Not going to lie, Alex Gordon seems to be the only one playing with any passion. It's understandable why he's getting frustrated considering he's made some nice passes that have just bounced off the hands of our guys.

Bobby O'Shea said...

Stan is right...Alex is the only one playing with any urgency. Kentucky's 57% is not as impressive when you conisder that they have scored 20 of those points in the paint (compared to our 4). If you are going to be successful, we hvae to force Kentucky to hit outside jumpers and start hitting a few ourselves. We went close to 7 minutes without a FG in the final minutes.

Not to be an alarmist or anything, but this is the most important half the Commies have played all season. A win puts to rest any worries about the Tourny, a loss and we will have to continue to sweat it out.

You know, I've never actually paid attention to this, but does the opposing team always have the bench under their basket in the second half when we play at home? If not, then UK lucked out by having Tubby close to them while they are on offense.

Bobby O'Shea said...

They always did...because that way we are under our own bench as well.

Byars has scored our last 11. Vandy can't afford to trade buckets, but they are finally showing some signs of life.

Big ups to the LFS camera crew for getting the entirity of Stallings' meltdown after Red's errant pass.

will they go cold down the stretch????

Uncle O'Shea said...

guess not!

Stanimal said...

Horrendous broadcasting quote of the game:

"Well you've got buyers and sellers, but when you've got Byars you don't need sellers!"

Stanimal said...

Someone take the lid off our basket when the game is tied! We can't buy one to take the lead.

Just to clarify, I am not advocating that Tubby should be fired. He is a fantastic coach and any school would be lucky to have him. All I know is that UK fans will not take too well to Kentucky being swept for the second straight year. The last time that happened was 1973.
