Can't Quite Top the Summitt

The Vanderbilt women can't seem to find an answer for Pat Summitt and the #2 Lady Vols. Of course the truth of the matter is that not many teams can.

The #12 Lady Commies got beaten pretty handily this past Sunday in Knoxville 73-53. This marks the 8th time the Lady Vols have gone undefeated in SEC play. The Dores had no answer for Candace Parker who had 21 points and 14 rebounds. Carla Thomas put up an admirable performance finishing with 23, but Vandy only managed to shoot 32.7% from the field and 25% from behind the arc.
The Lady Vols are good. They have only two losses this entire year to Duke and UNC, with Duke just finishing a perfect season and UNC bouncing around the top5 all year. So in that sense, this game was a tough one. The SEC Tournament for the women begins this Thursday in the nation's fastest growing county at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia, and you can expect this team to bounce back admirably.

Speaking of the SEC tournament, Vandy earned the three seed and will be receiving a first round bye, taking on the winner of Mississippi State and Florida. The Lady Dores were tied for third in the SEC but owned the head-to-head tiebreaker with LSU. Also, their 10 conference wins this year ties a record they set in 2003-2004.
