Vandy's good fortunes didn't last Sunday night as the girls were upset by the Ole Miss Lady Rebels in Oxford 76-66.
The Rebels outrebounded the Commodores 47-27. Caroline Williams played well with 19, Carla Thomas scored 18. Christina Wirth had 12. Dee Davis dished out nine assists as well.
After going 62% from the field against Arkansas, the Dores shot just 41% for the game, including just 30% in the first half. They were 33% from behind the 3-point line making only 8 of 24. The second half was much better for the Commodores but they simply could not recover from a first half in which the Rebels led by as much as 14.
This is a set-back, though not a terrible one. The Commodores are 1-1 in the SEC with a lot of games left. Still, this is a game the Commies should win, particularly when we have to play #4 Tennessee twice, Arkansas once, #15 Georgia once, and #6 LSU in the very near future. With a schedule like that, not picking up a win at this point is costly.
