Hoser of the Week Nominees

I'll kick start the nominees. Been a slow week thus far. Feel free to shoot down.

My nominee is Mitch Mustain, the freshman prized-recruit for Arkansas who just requested a transfer this week. In the wake of Gus Malzahn's evacuation of the Arkansas offensive coordinator role, Mustain took little time to request permission to leave. This wouldn't be so shocking, but there are certainly some factors that I believe warrant his nomination.

Mustain basically went to Arkansas because his old high school coach got the job as offensive coordinator. At no point did Mustain really have respect for head coach Houston Nutt. In the article on ESPN.com published today, he is quoted as saying as a recruit that: "Arkansas would have a better chance of getting me if Nutt were fired." When he found out Malzahn would be taking a job there, that's when he said he was a go to play for the Razorbacks.

Since when does a high school recruit get to dictate how a University's football program should be run? Mustain was the #1 QB recruit in the country last year according to most recruiting services. The problem with current recruiting analysis is that now these kids have egos prior to stepping on campus. Little boy Mitch must have been reading all about himself back in Springdale and decided that he would basically be the athletic director and head coach wherever he went. If he didn't want to play under Nutt, then he shouldn't have gone at all. You can bet there are tons of players who have turned the likes of Spurrier, Bowden, Tressel, and Carroll down (well maybe not Carroll).

Granted, Nutt did shmooze him with talk about running the spread-option offense that Malzahn used with Mustain in high school. And Arkansas did not offer Malzahn the contract extension he was looking for. I'm not criticizing Mustain for wanting to leave. What I am criticizing is how unbelievably arrogant his attitude has been from his recruitment to his short career at Arkansas. This dick-headedness I believe warrants him a nomination for the Hoser of the Week award.

Stanimal, the guys name is Nutt...I mean how could Mustain respect someone with that name, c'mon.

Seriously though, my Hoser vote has to go to Marty Schottenheimer. I have never witnessed any team, in any sport, hand over a win like the Chargers did this weekend. From the muffed punt to the simply ridiculous challenge to the unreal personal foul penalty, the Chargers looked like they were all gambling on the game, and bet against themselves. Although I think that a number of the players on the team could be in the running for this award, if I have to give just one I think the down right lack of discipline displayed by the Chargers has to be blamed squarely on Marty and his incompetence when it comes to post-season play.

Given Tom Brady's and the Patriots post-season performances, the Chargers could not have asked for anything more this weekend. Offensively, the Pats looked more like the Colts post-season offense than the fabled Patriots one their godless rabble likes to boast about, while defensively they were mediocre at best, allowing LT to do what he has done all season long. However, even with this, Marty and the Chargers managed to walk away from this game with a big L, even after dominating most of the game (stats-wise).

To this end, I not only feel as if Marty should get the Hoser of the week award, but he should also be fired outright and replaced immediately.

I couldn't agree more with Stanimal's nomination. While we're at it, can we let him share the prize with his mom, Beck Campbell? She was one of the parents who had a secret meeting with Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles regarding their discontent with Nutt's offense, and then issued a "statement" about it to the media. Are you kidding me? Not only was winning the SEC West and getting A LOT of playing time not good enough for these guys (WR Damian Williams already transfered), but they got their parents to whine to the AD about it. Yeah, I guess Houston Nutt is a moron for effectively utilizing his Heisman-candidate running back (McFadden) instead of running a spread-option offense to pander to pimple-faced freshmen and their minivan-driving parents. I mean, coaches don't really know what they're talking about anyway, do they? Oh, and in case you hadn't heard, most coaches will say just about anything to secure a big-time recruit. Life's tough, now get over it and play ball...

And by the way, Mitchy -- you may have seen more playing time, but your numbers weren't even as good as Casey Dick's. You and your mom can hop in her minivan and drive right on out of SEC country with that attitude...HOSER!

On another note, I want to point out that Shamas's last post is EXACTLY how Hoser of the Week posts should be: Blatant and aggressive attacks with a vehement HOSER finish. Well done Shamas, well done.

I nominate D.B. Woodside for Hoser of the Week [or potentially Hoser of the Year].

For all who don't think you know this talentless clown, you are wrong. You do and you probably hate him as much as I do. Mr. Woodside plays Wayne Palmer, President of the United States on "24." Watching the show, I start to really get into an episode [squirm in yoour seat, chug your beer, engage in a nicotine related activity, these all are clear indicators of interest in 24's content] until --- WHAM! --- that douche Palmer shows up lamenting his decisions all the while sitting on his ass crying while a nuclear bomb explodes in one of America's finest cities. He waffles as much as John Kerry's opinions on everything.

Every time I see this coward with his tiny, pencil mustache, I crave Dennis Haysbert, the State Farm guy who makes you feel proud of your country. At least Haysbert had some balls which Woodside clearly lacks. The guy sounds like L.T. after a playoff loss but without the talent to back him up.

So as I look forward to next Monday and another ridiculously entertaining episode of "24," I also approach the date with a doom-and-gloom, Dick Cheney mentality, because I know, like everyone else, that I have to witness D.B. Woodside attempt act [personally, this attempt has and will forever make me vomit in my mouth... a lot].

At last to you, D.B. Woodside: "You are a douche, you are a flake, and you are the biggest HOSER I know."

Except Bobby O'Shea of course.

My Hoser of the Week is like, totally, Isaiah Washington, a.k.a. Dr. Preston Burke on "Grey's." I mean, hello?? How dare he throw a homosexual epithet at George just because he felt threatened by McDreamy? I also heard McDreamy totally kicked his ass on set last fall. I can't say I understand what Dr. Yang sees in him…he's such a HOSER!!

Dr. MZ

Papa, it could be noted that they should have driven around looking for a school worthy of his talents to begin with. I don't care how good you are, you cannot dictate the way an athletic department is run.
