Less is Moore

While some Vandy football players are out to kill their ex-girlfriends and best friends, others are out to make a name for themselves on the field. Cornerback D.J. Moore, who started nine games in the defensive secondary as a true freshman, was just named to the SEC All-Freshman team, the only Commie to receive the honor this year.

While that number is less than last year's (when 3 players were selected), again Vandy fans are given reason for optimism. Moore was one of three freshmen, along with Joel Caldwell and Darlron Spead, who contributed significantly to the secondary in 2006. (Interestingly enough, Spead earned All-SEC honors from The Sporting News.) This group of newcomers are faster and more athletic than Vandy DBs of recent memory, and the experience they gained this year should help them anchor a unit that has traditionally been an Achilles heel for the team.

As for Moore, the mere fact that he is playing at Vandy and not somewhere else has to be encouraging. This kid has a wall full of high school honors (2-time First-team All-State as a WR, State Special Teams Player of the Year, MVP in South Carolina state championship game, 3-time All-State in basketball, state high jump champion, ...) and it's hard to believe Clemson or South Carolina weren't able to woo him. It also speaks volumes for the pull Bobby Johnson still has in that state. Most of all, Moore's honor is a nice distraction from the psychologically questionable exploits of his (former) teammate.

A good point by Shamus. D.J. Moore was a steal for last year's recruiting class.

On another note, a future Commodore will be playing in AAA Georgia State Championship this weekend. Udom Umoh, a three-star wide receiver prospect for Peach County High School in Fort Valley, GA caught 2 TD passes and gained over 100 yards receiving. He could be an excellent complement to Earl Bennett in the near future.

while you were mentally masturbating this story throwing in you punk assumptions of players that are supposedly beating up their so-called girlfriends it's interesting that idiot wannabe Jim Rome blog freaks make the correlation between D.J. and the punter so-called incident. yeah it's a run-on sentence but fact is stranger than your accusations of which you know zero. Get a life turkey.
